Bhupathi Reddy(Prakash Raj) is a powerful, ageing gangster in Chennai city. He was headed to temple with his lovable wife Jayasudha. On their way back home Senapathy and his wife were attacked, immediately these news reaches to his three sons. The eldest son, hot-tempered Varadan(Aravind Swamy) who looks after the business of his father in the city, Second son (Arun Vijay) a cunning man looks after the business of his father in Dubai, Third son (STR) a ruthless man looks after the business in Serbia. Varadan is married to Chitra(jyothika) and runs secret love with Parvati(Aditi Rao). Thyagu marries to Renuka (Aishwarya Rajesh), while Ethi is in love with (Dayana). In an attempt of attack, Bhupathi Reddy recovers and back to home, Due to a heart attack he dies suddenly. Now all the son's eyes are on the throne to occupy the power of his father, So the battle between brothers begins to occupy the throne. A cop (Vijay sethupathi) friend of Varadhan adds fuel to fire between the brothers. What was Rasool plan? Who wins the throne? Who tried to kill Senapathy? Answers to these questions reveal in the last 15 minutes of the film.
One of the major high light of the movie is the ensemble star cast and given a strong performance. All the four protagonists have equal scope and they have delivered the best. Simbu impressed with the natural acting, to be in action parts, to be in romantic tracks and also in emotional scenes he balanced very well. Vijay Sethupathi in the role of a cop is stunning. Arvind Swami occupies more screen space, he looks massy in the role of gangsters and his chemistry between Jyothika and Aditi are perfect. Arjun Vijay shines on screen as a deadly Dubai based businessman. Jyothika, Aditi performed in an intense manner. Aishwarya Rajesh is adequate, while Dayana is sizzling. Other supporting casts Prakashraj, Jayasudha and Thiagarajan are apt.
Maniratnam has given equal importance to each and every actor to perform their best. Maniratnam has elevated the tale with necessary twists and turns which keep the first half engaging, leading to the second half, suspense got revealed in the right time which excite the audience. With a stunning screenplay, Mani Ratnam managed the audience to sit at the edge of the seat for most parts. A.R Rahman BGM Music added right mood to the plot, Songs are also appealing. Production values are top notch. The cinematography is good, and editing is fine.
