2.0 is directed by S. Shankar under Lyca Productions banner. It is produced by A. Subaskaran & Raju Mahalingam, Music composed by A. R. Rahman, Cinematogrpahy by Nirav Shah, editing by Anthony
The film begins with the suicide of an old man hanging to a cell phone tower. In the next shot, we see a group of students visits met Vaseegaran(Rajinikanth) after knowing his new invention Humanoid Nila(Amy Jackson). On the other hand, all the mobile phones on earth vanish into air. Police are clueless. Government officials, ministers and police arrange a group of meeting with scientists. After through a research Rajinikanth(Vaseegaran) suspects the existence of a fifth force to handle it he suggests dismantled Robot chitti. Everyone is against his idea but they have no other option slowly they agree.
Vaseegaran introduces two robots and he came to know that an ornithologist Pakshi Rajan (Akshay Kumar) commits suicide after the failure of the battle against the system who play a prominent role in the death of Human and birds with mobile phone radiations. The rest of the film is all about chitti, Vaseegaran, Nila and 3.0 (surprise packet) come together to defeat Pakshi Rajan.
Shankar always chooses stories which is related to social background and adds technical era to that. This time he focused on cell phones how much cell phones radiations cause damage to nature and how it effects future generation has been executed clearly. In the first half, we only see phones vanishes from the city and Pakshi Rajan destructions. In the second half, a battle against Chitti and Pakshi Rajan is spectacular. Flashback of Pakshi Rajan is heartwarming. The overall director does not create any miracles with the story but he tried to make a film as a visual wonder.
Films biggest strength is Rajinikanth who steals the show, especially in the second half as 2.0 and 3.0 (kutti Chitti). His style and majestic screen presence is definitely a treat to his fans. In sometimes we may confuse which is real Rajinikanth and Visual one. In the case of Akshay Kumar also the same thing happens. Akshay Kumar in Pakshi Rajan getup fails to evoke any big impact. Amy Jackson as a machine is convincing in her role. Nirav Shah's camera work and Resul Pookutty's sound are noteworthy. A. R Rahman songs are forgettable except Enthira Logathu Sundariye which was shot for a whopping amount comes at the end of the film when titles rolling.
2.0 is a visual wonder.. Dont Miss
